And so, the last game between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Columbus Blue Jackets as Central Division rivals ended the way it started this season — with a one-goal win by the Blackhawks.
(Except this one was via the shootout, which shouldn’t even be a thing, but whatever.)
Corey Crawford had a good bounce-back game, stopping 29 out of 30 shots during the game and two out of three shots in the shootout. He probably would have had a shutout if it wasn’t for a dumb Sheldon Brookbank penalty that helped tie the game for Columbus.
However, the real revelation was Sergei Bobrovsky in net for Columbus, stopping 39 out of 40 shots on goal. This is the sort of performance that makes me very happy that Columbus is moving to the Eastern Conference next year. Give the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins hell, little Lumbus.
Anyway, there was this fight in the first period, and it didn’t feature Brandon Bollig (who had four shots on goal — wait, what?), which is weird. No, instead, Andrew Shaw and Matt Calvert mixed it up because… I don’t know, really. I figure Shaw said something about Calvert’s mom.
Pretend to be surprised that Patrick Kane was the game-changer. First, he dished a sweet pass to Johnny Oduya for the first goal…
Then, in the shootout, he deked yet another goalie out of his shorts.
That will never get old.
